I can only ever speak in vague terms and generalities these days. Wheels spinning and waves churning that can't be put down in defined terms. A warm night and a missed phone call. The pool hall at two am and driving back I stop at the diner. The tan and brown vinyl booth seats are the same and the short stools that line the counter. I never came alone in years past but tonight I sat at the counter with a piece of pecan pie and watched the high school kids. Just out of school they move so fast in their seats with their hash browns and milkshakes. If you look close you can see them vibrate with stored up energy. Everyone in a constant state of confused euphoric meltdown. The heat and tension is tactile. you can feel it like some kind of warm fog. And then it's cut a razor just straight down the line of stools at the counter. An old man has ordered a basic breakfast plate and some decaf coffee. There's a room that still smells like sex, opening the window doesn't help and there is still the torn missing corner of the condom wrapper that somehow always seems to disappear only to be found later by the most awkward of people. You both pretend neither sees it but both avoid it just a little too obviously. He's trying to avoid that very situation but is distracted by his recent memory of soft dark skin and light reflecting off little bits of metal. He makes a mental note about getting a fan. Wind traveling through a window and down a sidewalk catching a leaf and a small, metallic, roughly triangular shaped piece of something. She whispered under the sheets "I don't want any drama this time. Promise me no drama." He promised but wonders now if that was a prohibition or a cautioned acceptance. There are two dogs in a house, one in a bedroom and the other in the basement. They both sleep quietly and chase no rabbits. With sleep deprivation the first thing that comes is the auditory hallucinations, just your name at first sounding like it's whispered in your ear. Then you go mad completely.
