There are good meat choices out there. When I'm not raising my own, I go to North Hollow Farm : http://vermontgrassfedbeef.weebly.com/

As a former USDA Organic producer, I actually trust the USDA Organic label to contain what it says it does, at least for New England products. I've met the inspectors.

There are also these folks in NH: http://www.heronpondfarm.com/new-roots-farm-meat-csa

My old co-op in Cambridge would get a happy meat CSA from Western Mass; I was vegetarian back then, so I can't vouch for the taste, but if the hardcore vegetarians-for-ethical-reasons in the house thought it was a good idea, there must have been some merit!

there exist both meat and fish csa's, though they're most useful if you also have a chest freezer. also, goddessfarmer occasionally raises meat (i think she's got pigs this year) if you're a "know your farmer" advocate (i am, though i do not eat pork for other reasons :)

Kudos to you for thinking about this subject and making changes (or trying some out, at least).

Fish is such a healthy food that I keep trying to work it into our diet. I don't know how it is on the East Coast, but out here we can still get wild-caught salmon and other fish not too expensively.

Of course there is also the mercury issue to make avoiding fish appealing.
