I have NO idea what the hell was going on with the bodies and weirdness. (Who was that leader guy? He looked familiar.)

Is this a magical universe? The first 5 mins of the first episode was some weird shit, but it's been all normal since then. I have no idea what the "rules" are in this universe.
I've watched the bulk of it while on the treadmill, which has made for some interesting moments of trying to cover my eyes and flailing when someone gets beheaded. XD (See icon.)
