Duffy the Disney Bear Apparently back in 2004, Disney attempted to roll out this Duffy character in the U.S. parks. (Even though I think Pressler was gone by that time, this still smacks of his "MERCHANDISE MERCHANDISE MERCHANDISE AND SHOPPING CARTS ON EVERY CORNER" mentality, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was crafted under his regime.) However, Duffy bombed over here.
So. Stuck with $$ invested in this Duffy line, they took it to Tokyo. To their hearts' delight, it took off like gangbusters. So much so that they're re-introducing it back in the U.S.
While I know that Disney's all about making money, I have absolutely no interest in something that started out as a merchandise idea with some backstory slapped on so that they can shove it in the Parks.
"Look! A totally ordinary bear that you can buy! And you can buy it clothes and accessories and everything! Because...um...it's Mickey's bear! When he went sailing! Or something. Buy the bear!"
:PPPPPPPPP
Oh, I imagine some little kids might want the bear, but I'm wondering if it'll bomb again. Disneyland fans tend to be fussy purists, so I can't imagine too many Annual Passholders (a good chunk of attendance in California, unlike in Florida) will want it.
