So I had a pretty awesome extended birthday weekend!
Things got started on Thursday, my birthday, in the morning at about 9:30 when Axton picked me up to go with him and his son, Sebastian, to the zoo. Sebastian is nearly three years old, and he gets pretty excited about birthdays. He was already bouncing excitedly in his car seat, and not even three seconds after I got into the passenger seat he just exploded...
Bash: HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCA CHRIS!!!
Me: Thanks, dude! Are you excited to go to the z...
Bash: WE MADE YOU CHOCLATE CAKE SJF:AFJWRI WIVRHWIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me: Wow, awesome!
Bash: I CAN'T WAIT TO EAT IT WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, what a perfect start to any birthday, right?
So we spend about three hours at the zoo, we have lots and lots of fun, and then we go home so Bash can take a nap. From there, I meet up Jacee (Axton's wife) for lunch and tell her all about how her son has already made my birthday immensely awesome.
A couple of hours after that, I met up with my folks to see Star Trek (their first viewing, my third!). I love more and more with each viewing. My parents dug it too, and they humored me as I geeked about how much I was surprised by it and loved it.
We went next to Cheeseburger In Paradise for dinner. Dinner was supposed to be at 7pm, my sister called and told us she was running late and would be there by 7:15, 7:20 at the latest, and then doesn't actually show up until 8pm. My sister is perpetually late for everything; this is no secret. As a family, we are used to starting things 10-20 minutes later than planned. That's not to say it is never annoying, because it really really is. But really, an hour? She couldn't call to update us? I love my sister and would do anything for her, but sometimes she can really be inconsiderate. My irritation faded once she showed up with my nephew Austan. We had a good time, but at the end of the night when my sister tried to talk my folks into taking Austan back to his father's house, I couldn't keep my annoyance to myself anymore. It was 9pm, my folks already had an hour's drive ahead of them to get back home, and Austan's dad's house is in the opposite direction--not only NOT on their way, but about 20-30 minutes OUT OF their way. This was not cool, and I told Traci as such. I probably should have butted out, this was between them, but hadn't she already inconvenienced everybody enough this evening? why should she be able to go straight to hanging out with her friends after having made all of us wait for her? She was a bit miffed with me, but I didn't care by this point.
After that I went drinking with Axton and Jason and brought the evening to an inebriatedly delightful close!
Friday: didn't do much during the day. That night Ashley (Jacee's sister) took me to see Terminator Salvation. Very exciting movie, we both had a blast! We hung out for about an hour or so afterwards, just chatting away.
Saturday: had plans to hang out with Steve, but he bailed on me in favor of going fishing with Jason. I'm pretty sure Steve forgot about my birthday, which was disappointing of course, but I know he's had bigger things on his mind recently so he gets a pass. This time.
Sunday: hung out with my guys during the afternoon--Axton, Steve, Chad, Duane, and Trinity. Had a good time just hanging out and being idiots.
Monday: saw Terminator again, this time with Axton. Had dinner with his family that evening, more fun with Sebastian!
All in all, I had a great, relaxing weekend and an exceptional birthday! :-)
