Changes...for lack of better name

Anthony sat on his bed, guitar on his lap at 2 AM. He was trying so hard to drown out the unpleasant noise coming from down the hallway. At sixteen years old, he thought he'd be able to comprehend what was happening, but it didn’t make sense to him. He didn’t understand what he had done wrong, why any of this was happening. His finger tips glided over the guitar strings and he plucked a chord, but it still sounded out of tune to him. Just then, his door creaked open and there was a silhouette of a little girl. One of her hands curled around the doorknob while the other fisted Mr. Teddy close to her chest.

“Toady…” The six year old’s voice was frail and quivering, and Anthony could see the tears that she was trying to hold back as she pouted.

“C’mere” He placed his guitar beside his night stand and gently lifted his little sister onto his lap. “It’s going to be okay, Froggy.” his voice soothed her and she relaxed against his chest as he laid back on his bed.

She felt comfortable, safe and she believed him, that everything was going to be okay. What she heard next, though, made it hard to believe Anthony. Two voices simultaneously yelling made her tense up again and she was so thankful to be with her big brother, because, his voice will never be that scary, right?

“Mike, it’s not that simple!”

“It is! You just always have to make shit so goddamned complicated, don’t you?”

She shivered and began to cry on Anthony’s shoulder. He shushed her and held her tighter.

“I’m sc-scared, Toady.”

“I know, baby. I’m scared, too. It’s gonna be okay.”

AN: sorry for all the "she's" i havn't thought of a name for her yet.
