Obscure Boundaries-- Chapter 2

Mar 14, 2010 21:17

“This is Coach Hembil, just a reminder that girl’s soccer will start next Thursday so uniforms need to be picked up. Thank you. Attention to all those interested in the upcoming spring musical, Obscure Boundaries.” Yoochun’s ears perked up. “Signups are in the main office. The first auditions will be next Monday so get your name secured now! And that’s it for your Tuesday afternoon announcements. Have a, “this is way better than High School Musical,” kind of day.”

Yoochun nudged his Calculus buddy, Changmin, earning a grunt back.
“No way man, don’t drag me into that cutesy, showy type of thing. I’m not interested. Period.” Changmin glared at Yoochun.

Yoochun grinned at his new-found friend. They hit it off immediately yesterday afternoon when they were arranged as desk mates. With Yoochun’s eagerness to meet new people and Changmin’s cool but curious attitude, they clicked like… well, the Bic pen Changmin was flicking around.

“So, you know that Junsu dude? He’s kinda pissing me off because he doesn’t respond to anything that I say and it seems as if everyone’s, I dunno, scared of him I guess? What’s his deal?”

Changmin turned to face Yoochun. “What I’m about to tell you is exclusively for your ears only,” Changmin whispered.

“Two years ago in sophomore year, he was betrayed by both his closest friend and a girlfriend he really liked. At that time, his family was really wealthy and basically everything was perfect before…”

Changmin paused, as their teacher walked in the door. “I’ll tell you about it later.”

Yoochun grumbled under his breath. “I don’t like the sound of this,” he muttered as he flipped open his textbook.

Junsu yawned and stretched his aching limbs. ‘Why does this day seem to never end?’

Looking at his Armani watch, he counted out the remaining minutes before he could finally put his name down on that darn sign-up sheet.

‘I sure hope I don’t have to dress up like a girl this time,’ Junsu mused silently.

“Junsu, would you like to come up to the board and show us your working for question number thirteen?” Miss Rinestone asked, eyeing Junsu mischievously.

‘What that a wink I just saw?’

Junsu audibly sighed and picked up his notebook. Miss Rinestone smiled sweetly as he made his way to the front.
“Oh, and Junsu, please stay after class. I need to discuss something with you.” Miss Rinestone pretended to drop a marker on the floor and bent down all the way to reveal an over-bearing cleavage.
Junsu stopped mid-stride and offered a scoff at the new teacher.

“About what, Miss Rinestone? Your obvious physical attraction to me? Your lust and disgustingly failed attempts in seducing me? No thanks, I’d rather pass and actually do something conducive with my time, thank you very much.”

The whole class was deadly silent as they processed what had just come out of Junsu’s mouth.

Miss Rinestone furrowed her brows and bit down so hard on her lip that she could detect a hint of the metallic taste of blood. Straining to keep her tears from falling shamelessly down her face, she pointed her finger at Junsu and was about to regain back what little pride she had left when the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day.

“Have a nice day,” Junsu offered smugly as he strode past her, bag in one hand, and the notebook with question number thirteen in the other.

~*~*~*~*~

“Wow, did you hear the latest about Junsu and Miss Rinestone? Apparently she was trying to entice him but got a good tongue-lashing from Junsu that even the kids in the class felt embarrassed for her,” Changmin recounted with his mouth full of pepperoni pizza.

“Ugh, gross Changmin, at least have some decency to talk after you finish chewing,” Yoochun joked, whacking Changmin on the back.

“Hey! It’s not my fault I had to starve for five hours straight without my precious food. It was calling for me! Didn’t you hear it?” Changmin yelled while tenderly guarding his other piece of pizza. “It’s alright, you’re safe with me darling.”

Yoochun shook his head laughing, not believing that the other man was more interested in food than anything else. “You still have to tell me his story,” he prompted.

“Oh, right. You see, his life was set out for him. He had the looks, the popularity at school, the riches, the girl, and a spot safely secured in his father’s country-club corporation. But things started going haywire when they found out one of the employee’s was secretly hacking into the company’s security system and embezzled well over three million dollars. To top it off, Junsu’s mother developed a rare type of breast cancer that was only inheritable from genes. Eventually, due to all the pressure and stress, she couldn’t hold it any longer and passed away,” Changmin stopped and looked down sadly.

Yoochun breathed a shaky “no,” and patiently waited for Changmin to continue.

“It was the toughest thing he had to endure with his little sister two years younger than him. He had to stay strong for her but everyone has their limits right? He didn’t want to burden his father any more than what he was already carrying so he became so vulnerable weak and needed someone the lean on through this painful stage. The two people that he trusted the most ended up hurting him the most. His girlfriend, that stupid bitch, dumped him, saying she couldn’t count on him to be emotionally stable for her. His best friend, as it turned out, was the son of the extortionist, and worst of all, betrayed him by cheating with his girlfriend. That truly wrecked him and for all the years that I’ve known him through kindergarten, I’ve never seen him cry, except one day during health class…”

[flashback]

“Okay class, today we are going to learn about interpersonal relationships. As you all know, relationships among people is a very precious gift that can last for an eternity. Having a person to trust and support you when you’re in times of hardship and sorrow is probably the only thing that will keep us sane and anchored to the ground. Junsu, would you like to tell us about a relationship you treasure the most?”

Junsu sat at his desk and fought hard to control his emotions. People around started shifting in their seats due to the long, sustained pause.

A loud scraping of a chair caught the attention of the class.

“Screw relationships. It’s all a big fat lie. No one gives a damn about anyone other than themselves because they’re too fucking preoccupied with their own selfish lives to care about others.” Junsu blurted out, furiously wiping his tears that were uncontrollably tumbling down his raw face. He laughed bitterly and said one last thing before leaving the room. “Garrett, I hope you die in hell.”

[end flashback]

A thick silence filled the humid air, clinging onto Yoochun and Changmin, threatening to choke them.

Slowly, Yoochun brought his hands up to his face and took deep, raggedy breaths to slow down his erratically beating heart.

A/N: *wipes away sweat* PHEW! i feel so proud of myself for getting the depressing stuff out of the way >_>
