Sofia Curtis showered quickly, singing along to her favorite Christmas tune.

As she toweled off, an idea planted itself firmly in her head.

She grinned.

--

A dark haired CSI knocked on the office door, smiling at the busy occupant. Seeing a welcoming nod she walked into the room.

“I thought you might like a coffee; white, no sugar, yes?”

“Oh yeah, that’s more than right. You’re a Goddess, Sara Sidle, thank you.”

Half an hour later, and leaving the detective in a more relaxed mood than when she’d arrived, Sara left to answer a call from Catherine.

She was so engrossed in her cell phone conversation she failed to notice the detective retrieve a notebook from her top drawer, quickly making a mark on the clean page.

--

Nick Stokes called across the break room, “Hey Catherine, have you got any of that mistletoe from last year lying around in your office?”

“You mean the stuff that Greg hung everywhere trying to get Sara into a compromising position?”

“Yeah, that stuff.”

Nick chuckled. It had been a hoot seeing his friend get knocked back at every corner.

“Actually, I have, but if you want it for the same reason, you’ve no chance whatsoever.”

Catherine Willows had no intention of letting Nick, Greg, Warrick, Gil, or *any* work colleague for that matter have any excuse for getting anywhere near Sara’s lips.

“Nah, nothing like that, I thought I’d place it over the entrance to Sofia’s work-station; she’s desperate for Vartann to call, you know.”

Knowing differently, this time it was Catherine that chuckled. Then, she saw in her mind’s eye, Sofia’s reaction if Vartann or any other of her colleagues tried to give her a kiss, and she knew what she must do.

Nick spotted the evil grin and knew she was going to help in.

“Come on, Nick, I’ll help you, that just might be a sight worth seeing.”

Neither CSI saw the quiet loner standing in the corner with a notebook and pen jotting copious notes and crosses.

--

Sofia stared glumly at her television screen. It had been a hell of a shift, if she hated anything in her new life as a detective it was the needless death of a child.

The late night car accident that had closed the Vegas Boulevard for five hours had claimed the life of three young cheerleaders returning from the local game. Sofia had spent most of the day just talking with and consoling as best she could the parents of 10 year-old, Chloe Rogers.

The detective sighed, she wasn’t a mother herself, but growing ever closer to Lindsey Willows showed her just how much a parent would suffer.

A knock on the door brought Sofia out of her musings. The woman stood on her threshold caused the first genuine smile of the day to cross her face.

“Catherine? I thought you were taking Lindsey to buy her dress for the Christmas Ball.”

Sofia’s shock was real, as was her whispered addendum, “I didn’t expect you to tonight.”

Catherine smiled sadly, took Sofia’s hand and led her towards the couch. “I know, I was, but Sara called and told me what happened.” She pushed Sofia down and joined her, wrapping her arms around the blonde. “Even Linds knows that this is more important, her dress can wait.”

Sofia turned her head into Catherine’s strong shoulder and accepted the love being offered.

Later, much later, a trembling hand marked a cross in the left-hand side of a black, leather-bound notebook.

--

Sara chuckled evilly; it had been too long since she’d done anything as naughty as this. Tapping Greg on the shoulder she indicated the woman sitting quietly reading.

Together they crept towards her, carrying a large bowl of home-made snow.

Greg had read an article saying that artificial snow crystals could be produced on thin synthetic fibers in a thermos containing a freezing mixture of salt and crushed ice. All that was needed was the introduction of a static field. Of course, that wasn’t the simple truth but two scientific brains had soon worked out a CSI method of production.

The result of their labor was now hurtling at a remarkable speed towards Detective Sofia Curtis.

A loud yelp confirmed Sara and Greg’s assertion that the mixture was indeed cold.

A spluttering, seething, Sofia, turned quickly to catch a glimpse of long brown tresses well known to her investigative eyes.

She mumbled, “Sara Sidle, you’re dead.”

Pulling her notebook out of her pocket, she immediately scored a red cross in the appropriate place.

--

Bloomingdales was heaving; it was 7.30pm the Saturday before Christmas and it seemed as if all of Las Vegas was shopping at the same time.

Catherine and Sara were standing next to one of the jewelry displays, looking at numerous gold rings shaped like continuous, three-sided knots. As always, they were deep in a disagreement.

“That one is so not suitable. We need to be very discreet, you know, not over-the-top and obvious,” muttered Sara.

“Are you saying I’m imprudent?” Catherine almost hissed into her colleague’s ear.

“Don’t put words into my mouth; you know I didn’t say that.”

“Do I?”

“Yeah.”

The silence hung heavy in the air as the two women stared into each other’s eyes.

Obviously seeing what she needed to see, Catherine sighed, and laced her fingers with Sara’s.

“So, we need to look at something a little less showy, huh?”

A tall woman smiled and marked two corresponding columns with small, neat, bold crosses, before closing her notebook, slipping it into her coat pocket, and leaving the store.

---

Sofia Curtis looked down at her handiwork, checked all her figures twice, and then let a huge grin split her face. Each of her four columns had an equal number in the total column:

Catherine: Nice 4 Naughty 3 Total 7
Sara: Nice 4 Naughty 3 Total 7

When she’d challenged herself to ask one of her CSI colleagues on a Christmas Eve date she’d decided that the woman who was nice more than she was naughty would get the pleasure of her company.

This was the result she had secretly prayed for.

--

Sara and Catherine were sitting in a quiet corner booth of the local steakhouse, waiting.

Catherine’s hand rested on Sara’s knee and she smiled towards her lover. This was one of the times she adored, time just enjoying each other’s company, the time before.

Sara returned the smile, and played gently with the gleaming gold ring on Cath’s ring finger. She looked up and raised her eyebrow at the gentle touch on her knee.

“What? Can’t a woman caress her girlfriend’s knee?”

“Well, yeah, it’s just the first time you’ve ever touched me in public. *You* usually sit across from me.”

The question in Sara’s voice was subtle, but Catherine noticed her glance towards the main doors and grinned. Tonight was different in lots of ways.

“Come here, woman,” muttered Catherine as she pulled Sara towards her for a quick kiss.

A tall blonde woman entered the restaurant, twirling the new ring that nestled on her left hand; immediately catching sight of the kissing women, she was not surprised to see they wore matching rings.

As the two women pulled apart a quiet voice carried across the room.

“Hey! Couldn’t you two wait for the guest of honour?”

Sara and Catherine both looked up as Detective Sofia Curtis walked towards them with a loving grin on her face.

Who was naughty and who was nice?

It really didn’t matter a damn, she was going to have the best of both worlds, her first public date with both of her beautiful ladies.

Hope it was ok?
