Yes, it was a cracker, but Brent Sopel is not saying if it was a Ritz or a saltine.
Sopel knows the circumstances of his back injury drew some chuckles earlier this week, but said Thursday that for him it was no laughing matter.
Sopel missed Wednesday night's series opener with Dallas after suffering back spasms at home when he bent down to pick up a cracker dropped by his daughter.
"It's the truth and for some of you guys who think I'm a healthy scratch, you think it's all fun and games, but this is obviously something I didn't want to happen," Sopel said. "I wanted to be out there helping the team. When you are buckled over and can't walk, it's not fun."
Sopel hopes to play tonight, but won't know until this morning when he will attempt to take the morning skate.
Sopel said his entire family witnessed the injury.
"They were all sitting right there," he said. "My wife was standing beside me and my daughter dropped the cracker. They all saw it and I told them [the team] the way it happened. I tell the truth and this is what I get. Next time I'll make up a better story."
