I have a secret addiction to Snape-lives AU stories.

I'm developing an affinity for these, as well! (The couple I've read have been Snape/Hermione AU, which is not a pairing I'm absolutely in love with, but the stories have been fantastic.) Do you have any particular favorites? I really don't know where to begin with HP fic outside R/T! The fandom is enormous, lol.

Thank you so much for your review, not least of all because I can breathe again. :) I've been waiting here breathlessly since I posted thinking, What the hell am I doing, writing gen-fic? About Snape? I'm a shipper, and I've had Snape cameos in like two stories out of nearly one hundred. So I'm extremely relieved you think I've managed to pull this off.

Snape is such a peculiar character to write about, because on the one hand, everything he does war-wise is incredibly brave and heroic...but he's a really nasty person! And yet he really is a study in whether a person can overcome just about the worst past possible...and I just think it's a shame we don't really get that question answered, since his motives for everything weren't based in any kind of altruism or desire to atone for anything but what he did to Lily. Which, obviously, is why JKR killed him. But it's that the potential is there that fascinates me...if he lived, he'd have to find some new purpose. (Or not, but I'd like to think Snape's too smart to let himself endure that kind of experience and remain bitter and nasty and miserable forever?)

Anyway, I think I'm rambling. But thank you, very much! Your comments mean a lot. :)

Yeah, I find that interesting. I don't "believe" in Snape/Hermione, if that makes sense, but some of the stories (especially ones that make use of movie!Snape) really work -- that pairing is sort of a classic romance-novel scenario. And I like good Snape snark.

Almost all the non-R/T HP I read is stuff I see recommended at crack_broom. A couple of Snape/Hermione recs I read and enjoyed were The New Man (PG-13) and Love, Carefully Folded ("Mature" -- probably R).

No, that totally makes sense and is how I feel about it. I don't completely buy into it like I do R/T, but well-written makes for an entertaining read. Yesterday I read fanfic all day on my iPod while I cleaned house (and consequently got a sore neck and not much housework done, lol).

I have just accidentally discovered this Snape/Lily AU gem at fanfiction.net: The Apprentice. Do you know it? It involves going back to the Marauder-era, and it's delightfully snarky! I'm threeish chapters in and foresee myself staying up far too late night reading it!

Thanks for the recs! Any gen or different pairing ones you love?

The two I read this week were Of Muggles and Magic (which is set in the Regency era) and The Caretaker. They're both rather bodice rippery, though I know you don't mind that. ;)

Gosh, I'm sure I've stumbled across some that I really liked from time to time, but I can't remember any specific ones just now...

Thanks for the recs -- The Apprentice is new to me and sounds like it would be fun. Of Muggles and Magic I've actually started, after the rec by chococoffeekiss the other day. And I spotted The Caretaker on crack_broom just now when I was looking for the links above -- it does sound intriguing, but I think I gave it a miss because it was so long. If you liked it, though, I'll keep it in mind!

The Caretaker's actually shorter than M&M, but I personally think you should drop everything and read The Apprentice. ;) I've been reading non-stop with the exception of sleeping and OMG, so good! You'll love it, I know you will!

I just spent a large chunk of the day reading M&M, actually, heh. I'll keep the other two bookmarked!

Thought of something entirely different to rec (it's not HP, so sorry for being a little off-topic) -- I've always wanted to read some post-Paladin fic about Ista's little troop out hunting demons, and a few weeks ago I found one: Unseason.

Also, I saw this below: I've got this idea now about poor Remus being the object of an over-keen Snape constantly pranking him... -- and all I can say is, Go for it! ;)

Isn't it SOOO addictive??

Ooh, an Ista rec! Archive of Our own seems a good site...I just applied for an invitation tonight to try and get some of what I feel is my best/favorite work posted there.

and all I can say is, Go for it! ;)

*giggle* I may just have to, the idea of socially inept!Headmaster Snape is just too appealing...
