Martyrdom
Remus braces himself for tears, pleading, shouting, or silence. He should know by now to expect the unexpected from Nymphadora Tonks.
Nevertheless, he is nonplussed by her reaction. "Why are you laughing? I am perfectly serious."
"That's why it's so funny," she manages through her mirth. "Listen to yourself. You act as though nothing will hurt me so long as you don't."
"Tonks-" Her arms snake around him, and she kisses him deeply. He cannot resist her, even though he should. He must be one of those men, of whom he once read, who hasn't the gift of martyrdom.
