This is a little random, but I've noticed lately how many other people I've come across who like Jane Austen utterly ignore Persuasion. I've even been told that Northanger Abbey is better. I find this to be fundamentally UNTRUE! :0
Henry Tilney is lovely and everything, with his knowledge of fine muslins, but the novel doesn't hold a candle to Persuasion, in my opinion. A lot of people on Twitter are tweeting her books, or doing Jane Austen quotes, but in their lists of her novels, they entirely forget to include this one! I mean, she only wrote SIX complete books. It's not that hard to remember one of the titles, is it? The only person on Twitter I've encountered who actually gives this story its due is DailyJaneAusten, who has actually put up several Anne and Wentworth quotes lately.
How can a story about a second chance at true love possibly be boring? I for one find its twists and turns to be better than the imagined perils of a fifteen year old girl who pokes her nose into her would-be suitor's personal history. Sneaking into the rooms of one's dead mother is not polite, ok?
Not sure where this mini-rant is going exactly.
I suppose I just want to say that this novel should be given a chance. The people I have talked to who have read it all love it--with the exception of the one who said it was boring, that is.
Perhaps if there were zombies involved, it would be more interesting?
That last line was entirely sarcastic. For the love of all things holy, don't put zombies in the book!
