I liked this week's episode, despite the mind blowingly weird things that happened.
First of all, let me just remind everyone that I like Rory. I really do. He's sweet, funny, and, after seeing him this week, I can certainly say that he is brave. BUT...the shipper in me is still feeling a little dead inside that Amy picked him. I KNOW she can't feasibly be with the Doctor (not long term, anyway. Not really) but I still ship them like it's my job, so her "decision" made me a little sad. I do suppose it was the right one though.
Second: THE DREAM LORD. Maybe this is just because l have spent too much time with Sandman, but um.... when someone says "Dream Lord," this is what I picture: (and I sure hope this picture shows up. If not, it's Morpheus. ^^)
Instead, we get a dream lord who puts me in mind of this: (Again, if it doesn't show up, it's Rumpelstiltskin. hahaha)
Perhaps it was just the guy's voice.
I couldn't help but think there was something familiar/odd about him the whole time. I had no idea he was actually the DARK side of the Doctor though! I just thought it very weird that he would just let them go and keep his word. Villains don't do that. And he was sort of oddly focused on his bow tie. In retrospect, both of those things make sense. The Doctor likes to be merciful when he can, and he sure as heck likes his bow tie. I do too. There is nothing wrong with his bow tie, ok?!
I do like how, at the end, he gets a glimpse of his inner dark elf. It's just another reminder of that darker edge that Smith's Doctor has. I really like this. He is still the adorkable, lovable Doc who likes fish fingers and custard, but he's also the guy who was messing with Amy's head and saying all sorts of insinuating things about how he likes redheads and how he totally...um...hooked up with (yeah, let's leave it at that) Elizabeth I, perhaps history's most famous and most badass ginger. Love her!
Also, those old people with the aliens inside of them were both hilarious AND scary. I was freaked out when they vaporized those children, but it was also hysterically funny when Rory wanted to hit one with a board, and he stopped because he thought it was still this sweet old woman. Thank God Amy was there to be her usual awesome self and yell "WHACK HER!" Not gonna lie, I think that was the funniest line apart from: "I have to be this huge! I'm pregnant!" when the Doc referred to "the elephant in the room."
I'm just glad that, even though Amy has chosen Rory (for now. Mwa ha ha), they're all still going on adventures together. I'm not ready for this partnership to end, and I DON'T want another "Oh I'll never be with you, but here's a substitute, okay? We cool?" Yeah, NO. I am still floored that Rose was cool with that. Ah well. Moving on, because I like Amy so much better. :)
I still think the "Dream Lord's" speech got to Amy though. There's some unresolved stuff there. Sure, she knows she loves Rory (we all do, he's adorable), but she still "ran away with the handsome hero" and when she kissed said hero, he kissed back. It happened. It's the real elephant in the room. It's kind of awesome.
I am enjoying this SO MUCH more than the usual frustrating "Gee, Penny would be amazing with Sheldon but let's ignore that and force her relationship with Leonard. Yeah, that's funny and tension filled!" Not. This? This whole "Should I stay with the Time Lord or the guy I loved first?" Awesome.
Plus, you know, there are sonic screw drivers involved. :)
Everyone wins!
