It Had to be You

That's how I feel about the Renaissance. The things I love most in this world just HAD to be complicated and intricate and nitpicky and just plain TOUGH to work out! I'm a bit of a brainiac when I want to be, but these guys (and the occasional gal who got some recognition!) are in a whole other LEAGUE of smart. They are Sheldon smart, but in an emotional way. Seriously.

In case you hadn't guessed, I am writing my Brit Lit paper now! Yeesh. Then I have to study for the exam after. And my German exam. Lord.

Anyhoo, since the Renaissance is such a period of contradictions/looking back to the classics, today I am looking back to the classics of swing and old timey music! I swear, I was born in the wrong era.

1. "When Buddha Smiles"--Jan Savitt
2. "Don't Get Around Much Anymore"--Tony Corbiscello
3. "Hello Dolly"--Louis Armstrong (he's such a cutie pie!)
4. "I've Got a Girl in Kalamazoo"--Glen Miller (Funnily enough, Kalamazoo is where there is a HUGE medievalist conference every year, and the proud home of the "YoghMCA," the best nerdy dance ever!)
5. "Circus in Rhythm"--Count Basie
6. "Stardust"--Artie Shaw
7. "With Thee I Swing"--Billie Holiday (No one is quite like Lady Day!)
8. "Route 66"--Buddy Rich
9. "Jeepers Creepers"--Al Donahue/Paula Kelly

Dinner break, in which my brother tells me that I have "no idea what exhausted is" because he's been doing physical labor all day. Um, excuse me, but YOU have no idea what I do or how tiring it can be. Argument ended with him trying to get the last word (as usual) and me quietly finishing my dinner and returning to my essay and my music. Adrenaline gone. Now running on sheer force of will. Not sure how long it's gonna last, man.

10. "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries"--Judy Garland
11. "Desafinado"--Tom Jobim (More bossa nova, but still very nice!)
12. "L'complainte de la Butte"--Rufus Wainwright
13. "Baby it's Cold Outside"--Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting
14. "Mr. Zoot Suit"--The Flying Neutrinos (I think this was in "Swing Kids," a brilliant film)
15. "Strangers in the Night"--Frank Sinatra
16. "Sway"--Michael Buble
17. "As Time Goes By"--"Casablanca" Soundtrack (readers of my fic will know I love this deeply. XD)
18. "Moon River"--Henry Mancini (Penny reminds me of Hepburn's character in BaT.)
19. "Don't Know Why"--Norah Jones
20. "Monster Mash"--Bobby "Boris" Pickett (I've lost my damn mind, I know)
21. "Wouldn't it be Loverly"--"My Fair Lady" soundtrack (Marni Nixon is fab, but Hepburn's singing wasn't that bad! Yeesh.)
22. "Smooth Operator"--Sade
23. "It's Not Unusual"--Tom Jones (for some reason, my friend Andrea and I were OBSESSED with this song in high school! XD)
24. "Everybody Wants to be a Cat"--"The Aristocats" Soundtrack
25. "Down in New Orleans"--Dr. John, "Princess and the Frog" Soundtrack
26. "La Vie en Rose"--Edith Piaf (French version is much nicer/less corny than the English one! Plus, it's in the Hepburn/Bogart "Sabrina")
27. "Fire and Rain"--James Taylor (he's just loverly)
28. "Hot Honey Rag"--"Chicago" Soundtrack
29. "Save the Last Dance for Me"--Michael Buble

Paper complete. Actually isn't too bad, and only took me three hours! Now I have to study, which might take another three hours.

Sleep? What is sleep?
