Tonight was the induction ceremony for Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society at my school. Turns out, there are ALL KINDS of creative opportunities at my finger tips now because of this, as well as the chance to further explore more scholarly, critical writing.
You wanna know something that's just as badass? I was reading the copy of The Rectangle (the society's creative writing journal. I am flailing all over that one right now!), and they have a list of "Honor Members" that includes the likes of Billy Collins (it's love, baby). There were also a few NEW members. One of them? NEIL GAIMAN!!!!!! I may or may not have danced around my living room. I will leave the reader to judge on that one!
It just feels surreal to be honored in my field for enjoying my field! A friend and I were discussing this after the ceremony, and we both agreed that it felt entirely strange to be honored just for doing something that we enjoy and that feels so organic/inherent. I'm also used to feeling like I'm young and don't have much to offer as a scholar yet. Not really. But tonight? Well, the people running the show made it clear that maybe I do. That is pretty amazing. Doctor Crowley absolutely believes that we all do too. That what we have to say is worthy of consideration and respect. It sort of hits me every once in a while that I'm kind of "growing up" (I will NEVER give up Spongebob or comic books though, so let's not even consider that! XD). Neat.
Okay. No more philosophy from this one tonight. I'm gonna be a total girl now and also say that I looked really cute with my new top and shiny gold shoes. My outfit may have been "mature" but my shoes were girliness on crack, so yay!
Today was a good day. :)
