I am officially a godmother now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My babies are Mary Jane and Tobey Alford, and they looked ADORABLE in their baptism outfits!!!
We got up early to head over to New Bedford to help get our young charges ready. Mom and Dad are godparents to Peter and Isaiah and Jeremy and I have the babies as ours. Mom and Dad got the twins their suits, and Mom and I helped them get dressed. I put Isaiah's socks on backwards, but other than that things went off without a hitch and both boys looked very handsome indeed! Mom, Mai, and I all got MJ and Tobey dressed. He looked soooo cute in his little tuxedo! My favorite part of the outfit was the little baby cummerbund. It was pretty hilarious. MJ looked gorgeous in the dress I bought her! I got her cute little sandals too, that she can use anytime. That girl is definitely in for some cute little outfits. You have to start early with the Jane Austen dressies, if you want to do things right. ;)
The ceremony was wonderful. None of the kids cried, and the twins were hilarious while the priest was talking to them. They kept nodding and going "Yeah," but the way they say it, it sounds like "JA!" This leads me to believe that they are secretly German, but that's fine. Paul got really emotional during the ceremony, because he feels like now he has his family back. I got a little teary eyed too, just because if someone else is crying than I usually come down with a case of sympathy tears. I know by now you (okay, Sam and Andrea) are probably sick of hearing this, but I couldn't help thinking of my grandpa, and how he'd crack some kind of joke about me being responsible for not just one but TWO little ones. Oh dear. I just kept picturing this photo of him, where he's holding my little cousin Nathaniel. Pai didn't see the camera, but it's a shot from behind, where Nate is looking right out, but Pai's profile is in view, and he's kissing Nate on the cheek and smiling like he's the happiest grandpa on earth. It was a really beautiful photo, and I was more than a little moved when Bubba showed me a picture he had taken of me holding MJ and smiling down at her in kind of the same way. I was making her laugh at the time. We looked good today, she and I. I'm really looking forward to seeing MJ and Tobes (his nickname) grow as individuals. It's going to be really amazing. It's been nice seeing all of Paul's kids grow up, really. It makes me feel a little old, but it's great fun to remember them as they were as babies and then to see them now.
We had a party at Paul's house afterward. It was nice enough. I'm not fond of some of Bonnie's family, but her grandmothers and her Uncle Clem are excellent people, and it's always nice to see them, even if that is sadly not often enough. Our cousin Inez was there today too. She got all of the kids some nice new clothes and she brought sodas and desserts, which was incredibly kind. She's a very generous woman, that one, sometimes even to those who don't fully appreciate it. After a few hours, we came home and now we're just relaxing. I'm going to read some more Little Dorrit and while the evening away.
