Progressive Men

This Julian Assange controversy is pissing me off in many ways. Mostly because when conversation surrounding the rape allegations and the women in the middle of this is attempted, the other side butts in, showing their male privilege and trying to derail the conversation. WE HAVE ALREADY DISCUSSED THAT SIDE IN LENGTH. It has been the focus of the media, and is still the focus of the government. So, sorry, but no.
Let me get this straight. I support what Wikileaks has done. I do not support Assange; there are many other people who will do what he has done with this information. He is not the first, not the last nor is he the martyr to this cause. I also cannot bear the language used by his lawyers regarding the allegations: 'honeytrap?' Yep, OK. Thanks for that. It's damning.
All I am learning from people like Michael Moore and Keith Olbermann is that 'progressives' will remain on our side until it's inconvenient, until we interfere with their own political agendas; then the rape victims should be careful and think before they accuse their attackers. THINK OF THE MEN.
Yes, it pisses me off that the government is making such a big deal of this, but only because they are jumping on this as an excuse to get the dude on trial. It is clear to me that they could not care less about the women involved, more the political consequences.
'Sex without condom whilst asleep' is rape. When she explicitly says no to sex without condom, having sex without one when she's unconscious IS RAPE. I don't know if he's guilty or not, but I am not ashamed at taking the women's side on this because so many female voices are ignored when it comes to these issues.
And to the protestor who said that 'when a women makes these allegations, we have to take her seriously?' Yes. Yes you do. I can't even go beyond that, because everything these pro-Assange supporters have said with regards to this case has made me so angry. That people are questioning why these women have decided to speak up, but not questioning why people have decided to identify them on the internet, publicising their names and addresses, it just...UGH.
Overall, what I have learnt from this fiasco. Men's political actions are still more important than female rights. Still more important than women's rights to bodily autonomy. Thanks for letting me know where I stand.

This isn't at all eloquent. But this entire debacle has left me so angry, I find it hard to express in words.
