I like their points about Remus. Fandom has made him too perfect. They forget he is just a man, who has had some pretty serious issues, and he is not perfect. He is flawed and will freak out and make mistakes. But he came through in the end - both to Tonks and to Harry - and that is what ultimately matters.
Yeah I read that the other day browsing my friends' friends list :) I read a lot of DH discussion from all kinds of different sides of fandom -- not just the "ron camp" which is the one that surrounds me mostly. Since I also had my own ron "slant" when I read the book myself, looking at things from the perspective of Ron and the trio and the way DH answered me there, it's interesting to me to read more about characters like Remus and Snape.
I also liked this post about Lupin, and his flaws http://fluffyllama.livejournal.com/284649.html which I think snegurochka lee mentioned in this one. It's true that reading so much fanfic over the years has coloured the way I view the peripheral characters much more than it does the main ones. See Viktor for example ;)
So. Yeah. I better get back to my own paper.... :p
Wow that was so well written and insightful. I agreed with so much of what she had to say about Lupin. I loved the fight that Harry and Lupin had it was human and real. I am a Tonks/Remus shipper. I can see how someone can love someone and yet be fearful of comment it's natural. It's the same worry that any unemployed men would, have. I have heard whispers of his being 'trapped' by Tonks and well I don't agree with that.
Thanks for the link! Many things I agree with, many to consider. My mind has pretty much been singularly into this book at all hours of the day and night.
As a relatively new fan of snegurochka's, I've been singularly impressed with her work, and her amazing ability to order her words so articulately. I do not agree with everything, of course, but her digest is most stimulating, indeed. Whereas nearly everyone on our flists thought of Kosh when Fred died, I thought of snegurochka and one or two others when first Snape, and then Remus were dispatched
( ... )
yes. that scene didn't upset me, though i felt a little affronted at first at the force of harry's anger. but it played right into his biggest hot button, so it ended up making sense to me. just as lupin's knee jerk reaction of wanting to get away did too.
