Fic Archival-itis

It was early morning when Catherine found the first one; just a scrap of paper propped against her tea tin.

You still hum when you make tea, but now I don’t know the song.

She nearly dropped the kettle she’d brought to the tea cart.

Ernest was still upstairs, tucked away in one of her guest rooms. He joined her later, but he seemed ( Read more... )

Well, if you're going to do just one fic for LeapGate, it ought to be a really good one--and this is.

The notes are cute, and they work to invoke Ernest's shy behavior. And Catherine's reaction to them all is just exactly the way I picture she'd react. Frustrated by them, but amused by them, too.

:-)

We can't all be you and Pepper, turning out amazing work at the rate of - what did you do, four in an afternoon? =) Me, it took two weeks to figure out how to write this, and when I did write it, it was still *totally wrong* and I had to rip it into little pieces and reassemble it. A tiny little 700 word fic. Hee hee.

I think they're interesting characters (Catherine in particular manages to be fascinating to me in all of two episodes) who are stuck in a compelling situation; I'm glad you liked the treatment. Thank you!

Yes. Catherine strikes me as a very interesting character. I wish we'd gotten to see more of her.

Hee. Really, this prompt was just a good excuse for me to re-watch her episodes. (Not on topic, but I always forget how ridiculously cute season one Sam is.) Anyway, I believe they asked the actress back at some point, and she turned them down. Shame, but I think she was in her seventies, so ....

Here way of holdouttrout...

This is really lovely! My one main gripe about the Stargate franchise is that they just drop major character arcs, with no resolution (or a very hurried and unsatisfactory resolution). Thank god for fanfic! And this is such a nice peek into Catherine and Ernest's reunion. I loved this: so Catherine performed what was, for her, an unnatural act, holding back the words she wanted to say.

So *very* Catherine! And the notes are so sweet! Nice job!

Yeah, I have an unholy love for those minor, background characters ... including those really interesting women that we only get to see a couple of times before they vanish forever. Catherine, she's brilliant and brash and loving all at the same time, and I adore that.

Anyway, I'm so glad you liked it. Thank you!

Just perfect, lovely and perfect. Beautifully in character, and charming and no-nonsense at the same time, and so believable, after all those years Ernest spent writing journal entries and talking only to his mental construct of Catherine. I'm so glad you wrote this and so glad holdouttrout pointed to it.

Oh, thank you so much. I think Ernest came across as having a very healthy inner poet, but I imagine it would be hard for him to really express it, at least at first. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and found it a plausible scenario! Thanks for reading and commenting.

Came from paian's rec. (I always meant to double check what I'd missed at leapgate). What a lovely quiet story dealing with them getting to know each other. I can see Ernest feeling more comfortable communicating to Catherine by writing notes. So sweet and heartbreaking and wonderful all at once.

Lovely.

Thank you! I've always loved these two and their little story. And yes, I imagine a real, live Catherine after all those years would be simultaneously amazing and intimidating for poor Ernest. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it!

Also brought by paian's rec, and this is fabulous--of *course* Ernest wrote her notes, and the ending is just utterly delightful. I'm still grinning as I type this.

I'm so glad you think so! It seemed like sort of ... a natural way to clear his throat when he hadn't talked for a while, so to speak. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
