I couldn't wait anymore.
I miss Lloyd terribly. His tank sitting empty is just wrong.
I stopped at Robbinsdale Farm Garden Pet Supply last night while doing several errands in that area. I have been in there before and they have always had a dozen or so Bettas in stock. Of course, I absolutely hate how they are displayed in this store. The other times I went in, the boys were in bowls about 5" in diameter and about 2" of water. GAR! So, I figured I would "rescue" someone in need of a bigger home.
When I saw the display last night, I was instantly angry. Not only were there Veil Tails in the bowls described above, but they had Crown Tails in tiny cups, smaller than PetSmart's. They were literally in less than 1" of water!!!! Their fin spread is AT LEAST 2"!!!!!!!!! These poor little guys could only swish around in a tight circle. I don't remember the exact diameter of the cup but it was less than 3". I was devastated. There were bits of ray in the water with the boys in the least water. There were two in particular that broke my heart. Gorgeous fish and no room, AT ALL, to swim. A couple of the fish had almost 2" of water in their cups. All of the fish were angry or depressed. We won't even talk about the shitty tanks they have for Bettas there.
Yes, yes, I know. If I buy one, the store thinks that they should keep stocking them this way. But my heart doesn't allow me to walk away. The only staffers I could find were teenagers or I would have lodged a complaint. The kids working there would not care at all so I am waiting until I am in there and see a manager type.
I made myself only pick out one. If I had any extra tanks, I would have gotten more. The one I picked is beautiful. His colors are still changing so I am not going to try to describe them right now other than to say his fins and rays are tri-color and he has a pale face. His rays are different than my other Crown, Vic's. He is being very shy right now. Who can blame him? Going from less than an inch of water to a car ride to a 2 gallon home has got to stress anyone out. He did eat a couple of pellets, but he runs and hides if someone's giant face gets to close to fast. One of the plants I gave him makes a neat leaf cave that he has taken to napping in. He seems to particularly like one shiny Hot Wheel car a lot. He stares at it and the Millenium Falcon that are next to his tank for minutes at a time. He has not told me his name yet, but I shall wait and see. Hopefully he will settle down soon.
Now, can I keep myself from getting more tanks and going back and "saving" more of the Crowns?
