An Interview with Naveen Andrews

Feb 03, 2008 19:58

Okaaay, so I'm still kinda sore about Heat's comments (earlier post) but here's the interview with Naveen Andrews.

So three more seasons of Lost to go, and thanks to that bombshell "flash-forward" at the end of last season we now know that Jack and Kate are alive and off the island in 2006. Didn't see that one coming!
I agree with you. I absolutely agree with you. Yes, because the story does shift dramatically. And - God, how can I?- every time I do this, its so hard to talk about it without revealing what they don't want you to fucking reveal. How can I put it? Its impossible.
Take your time.
Well, they've already added a glimpse of the future, haven't they? Because you saw Matthew and Evie. You get to know that some of the people on the island do get off, and you see them in the future. how that happens you don't see, but you see what they've become. For some of us - it is a dramatic shift. Its like, "Fuck me. What happened to turn them into this?"
They also killed off fellow Brit Dominic Monaghan [Charlie] last season. Do you miss him?
Yes, I do. I miss his humor. I miss the fact that we could just go into Alan Partridge routines and nobody else would know what we were doing. It's always sad when someone get killed off, you know.  It's sad when you've spent three year with somebody and - it seems rather brutal, you know?
But living in Hawaii probably makes it a bit better.
I've never lived in Hawaii. I keep a place there, but I'd go totally spare if I had to, like, live there. I just go back and forth as my family are based in LA.
Don't most of the cast live there?
Yeah. And they're mad. They've all gone completely mad. They actually think they're on the island. Poor fuckers.
So, when it all finishes, as we now know its going to in two years' time, what will you do?
I'll thank god.
And after that? How about a shave and a haircut?
You, know, the great thing about Lost and the fact that it has been successful is that its opened up other avenues of work. I think for all of us to be able to go on and do good work as a result of this show is the best thing that we can take from it. And I'm really proud of the first season. I think it stands up there with some of the best work I've done. No one will forget that first season.
When you first read the script, did you have an inkling it was going to be a massive hit?
No, because you just don't know. Even if something is well-written, you know it might be critically well-received, but you don't know if the public are going to buy it. Personally, I just thought it was a ridiculous premise. People on an island? How long is that going to last without people getting bored.
Well, we know now. Six years.
Yeah! Six fucking years later...
