Chapter 6
Bella woke the next morning to find a note on her bedside dresser.
“Bella-
I had to go early for some technical stuff for the concert
I’ll be back after 6
Love Edward”
Bella smiled and kissed the note. It was Saturday and she didn’t have to work, which was a good thing. She spent most of the morning cleaning up the apartment from dinner last night. She played her favorite music and turned it up all the way. She was in a good mood and wasn’t going to waste it.
In the afternoon she went to the market to pick some things for dinner that night. She was going to make Edward spaghetti and needed some noodles and bread. She got back to the apartment to find flowers in front of her door.
She picked them up and opened her door. She placed them in a vase and read the card that was attached.
“I’ll love you always -Edward”
She giggled and then smelt the flowers. They were white lilies, her favorite. Everything was finally perfect in her life now. She looked at the clock. It was 5:30 Edward would be here soon hopefully. She took out the pot and pan needed and began cooking dinner. Bella set the table with the flowers in the center and candles on either side of it. Two place mates were set, one at the head of the table and one right beside it on the side.
By time the food was ready it was 6:30 and Edward still wasn’t there yet.
“I’ll wait for him to eat.” She said sitting down on the couch and turning on the TV.
Bella couldn’t sit still. She knew he might be late but now it was 8. The food was cold and the candles were almost all wax. She walked over to the table and blew them out.
“Where is he?” she wondered. “Had he gotten lost?”
Bella paced her living room thinking. Why did he leave me all those years ago? Why did he look guilty the other day? Did she do something? Or worse did he do something? What was going on with them?
As if on cue the phone rang.
“Hello?” Bella asked
“Bella it’s me, Edward”
“Where are you I thought you were coming over for dinner?”
“I’m so sorry about that, I’m going to have to cancel on that okay. I’m still at the theater we’re having a problem with the piano.”
“Oh okay are you coming over afterwards?”
“No I don’t think so, I have get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow okay. I’ll meet you at the doors at 7:30 okay?”
Bella was a little upset by this. She really wanted him to come over so they could talk.
“Yeah okay see you then.”
“Bye.”
“Wait Edward I need to ask you something.”
“Sorry love can it wait until tomorrow they need me.”
“Yeah it can wait.”
“I got to go okay. Bye!” There was a click and then the phone went dead.
Bella turned it off and curled up on the couch. She found the remote and turned the TV on. She drifted off to sleep soon afterwards, hoping tomorrow would be better.

Edward closed his cell phone. He hated doing this to her.
“Edward honey they need you.” A lady called.
“Thanks“ Edward said walking over to her.
“Who we’re you calling mister?” She said putting her arms around his neck and then kissing him.
Edward broke the kiss and lightly pushed her away.
“Someone.” He said putting his cell phone into his pocket and then walking to the stage.
The lady stared at him as he walked away. Something had changed about him.
~*~*~*~
Bella woke late the next morning. It was already 12 o’clock. She got up and had a quick shower. She had a hair and make-up appointment at one and didn’t want to be late.
She was excited to see Edward play but also nervous because tonight after the concert she needed answers before their relationship could go any farther.
~*~*~
Bella walked through the doors of the theater holing onto the bottom of her dress making sure no one would step on it. The ceiling was high and shaped into a dome at the top. She looked around; there were a lot of men in tux’s there. How would she be able to find Edward? She walked farther into the hall. She glanced around at all the beautiful women. Edward was right about being fancy.
She looked back at the doors and saw him. She walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder.
“Hello stranger.” She said.
He turned and smiled. “Hello Miss.” He said then took her hand. “Let me show you back stage.”
As they walked Bella thought of a way to start the conversation.
“So what was it you wanted you ask me?” He said once they were back stage in the dressing rooms.
“Edward, I’ve been thinking since you saved me from the books that day. I need answers before I let myself love you again okay.”
Edward sat down in the make up chair and pulled another for her to sit in.
“Okay shoot.” He said.
Bella sat down. “First things first. Why did you break up with me? I know it was 5 years ago but I would still like to know. You never really gave me an answer.”
Edward folded his arms. “The reason I broke up with you was because my dad made me. He didn’t really like you and he said the only way he would let me go to New York was to break up with you. I’m sorry it seems so harsh but I was an idiot back then.”
Bella sat there and let that sync in first before she asked him another question.
“Okay, another one. The other day when I was trying on dresses you look guilty what was that all about? Is there something you’re not telling me?”
Edward didn’t say anything. How would she forgive him?
“You know when I told you I was at a meeting that one day. I wasn’t actually at a meeting.”
Bella leaned back into her chair and folded her arms onto her stomach. He had lied to her even though he said he wouldn’t.
“Okay then…”she managed to get out. “Where were you then?”
Edward had known this time would come. He took a deep breath.
“I was with someone that morning.”
Bella’s eyes widened. He was with someone else and didn’t tell her.
“Was it a women you were with?”
Edward leaned back in his chair and nodded. “Yes.” He said.
Bella stared at him. Was he cheating on her or was it the other way around?
“Are you…involved with this women?”
Edward nodded again. “She’s my fiancé.”
Bella couldn’t believe it. Edward was engaged to some women but was fooling around with her at the same time.
“So what does that make me to you then? A play thing?” Bella was tearing up now. She didn’t care if her makeup got ruined she would be leaving after this.
“No Bella you mean so much more to me!” He said getting up and taking her hands.
She pulled away. She didn’t want to look at him.
“How long?” she asked.
Edward sighed. “We’ve been engaged for 2 years now.”
“Why are you waiting so long?” She asked getting up and walking over to the mirror. Her mascara was running now.
“Because of you.” He said.
Bella was confused now. “Me? What the hell do I have anything to do with this?” she asked looking at him through the mirror.
“I promised myself that I would try and find you and if I did I would break off the engagement with her.”
“So what you’re saying is that she was a replacement of me? So just in case you didn’t find me you would still get married.” She said turning to him.
Edward looked at her. He didn’t want to answer but he had to, she needed to know the truth. “Yes.”
Bella turned and wiped her eyes.
“Well I hope you and her have a very happy fucking life then!” She yelled walking out the door.
“Bella!” Edward yelled.
She had run back to the hall. Edward followed. He saw her walk out of the building.
“Bella!” he yelled over the traffic.
“Edward leave me the hell alone!” she yelled back. She stopped at the light waiting for it to change so she could walk. “Hurry up!” she yelled at the green light. “Turn red!”
Edward had caught up to her now. “Bella please, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He said.
“Hurt me?” She asked. “Hurt me? Oh no Edward you didn’t hurt me you fucking broke me, again!”
“Bella I love you okay! I love you doesn’t that mean anything to you?” He asked.
Bella snarled. “Yes Edward it does mean something to mean but what about her? What about the women who thinks you’re in love with her?
“Bella I’ll do anything to make you forgive me.”
“Edward, I’ve had enough. Just leave me.” The light finally change and she walked across the street.
“Bella!” Edward yelled again.
“Fuck!” He shouted to himself and then walked back to the theater. He had a show to put on.
