I hear a lot of people say that unions are dinosaurs, that they are no longer necessary in our times and only contribute to bloat and inefficiency in the companies that they infest. I guess they were right. The UAW (United Auto Workers) union refused to allow pay cuts that would put wages in line with those paid by Japanese automakers. A reasonable request, I would think, if you're working for a company that is facing potential bankruptcy. But they refused. So the entire bailout was pulled off the table. Awes. Economic meltdown, here we come!
