I'm a great fan of Tickle Me Elmo--I vaguely remember one of my cousins having it and the mild amusement he generated with his cutesy-wootsey giggles. Now, Mattel has come out with their TMX Elmo (the X apparently means "extreme"), which basically means they totally amp up the giggles and tickly spots.
With subsequent tickling, TMX Elmo will not only giggle, he'll slap his leg, tumble over, kick his feet in the air, and generally mimic a possibly tragic epileptic attack. While manufacturers anticipate a stampede for this, er, upgrade of a classic toy (well, it HAS been about 10 years), I can't help but wonder...how the FREAKING HELL they can. Seriously. I watched the demo and it completely freaked me out. I wouldn't let any unsuspecting toddler near it. I mean, look at this:
FREAKY!
Even the dog was freaked. I can just imagine ominous horror stories emanating from such a toy.
