Well,
there's really nothing else to report. The doctor looked at everything (cat scan, and the head itself) and he came to the conclusion that Jared will need surgery (duh!)
Now here's the tricky part. There are 3 types of surgery that jared can undergo because of the situation.
a) the doctor can open up his left eyebrow and put the plate in for the bone that is going to be removed.
b) the doctor can slice jared's head from ear to ear on the top of his head to not only remove the bone but also fill jared's sinus cavity with fat tissue from his stomach. Now this is tricky because the state of Jared's sinus cavity is unknown. If the sinus cavity has been hurt by the bone parts and the mucus membrane has been damaged, then mucus can accumulate and his face will swell up like a balloon. The even more tricky part is that it can swell at any point between 2 weeks after the surgery, or up to 10 years after. This would require a Cat scan every year for the next ten years. But if they fill the cavity with the fat, there is no problem with the swelling.
c) they open up jared's eyebrow check to see if his sinus cavity is intact. If it is then the plate go in and the whole thing takes about 2 hours. If the sinus cavity is not okay then the doc has permission to open Jared's face from the end of his left eyebrow to his right (which will produce a unibrow scar) and then insert the fat into the sinus cavity and then put the plates in and sew him back up. The total time for the fat-sinus-plate is about 3.5-4 hours.
Total hospital stay is one overnight, and then recovery is about ten days. But it is not uncommon for people to be fine in a couple of days, which is probably what will happen to Jared.
We are waiting for the doc's office to call us back to see when we can get in for the surgery. He want to wait until Monday, but if something is open before then I think it will happen. Weekend surgery is unlikely. We should have a more definite time and date tomorrow.
Other than that we are still tired and Jared looks pretty good. There's some blood on the far region of his eye, some blue eyeshadow above his eyelid, and the stitches make his eyebrow dark. The dent is looking pretty awesome right about now with all the swelling going down.
If you have any questions just post them it might take me a while to respond but I am sure this may be confusing.
