So uh I just watched the LAST EVER episode of Corner Gas. It was a good ending! I understand why they had to stop before they got repetitive and/or the bad kind of stupid! But, at the same time... Corner Gas is GONE FOREVER.
It was kind of a predictable ending, but it was also the most self-referential piece of television to ever exist, and I am counting that one SPN episode with the Gilmore Girls joke. They even brought back the Surveillance Bush! However, I almost take offense to the whole "Davis and Karen are not funny" thing, since they are hilariously hilarious. Remember the one where Davis auditioned for the security camera? Or the bit with the crows? I still say "It wasn't willy-nilly! ...It was at crows." semi-regularly and that was what, in the first season? Remember the time there was a Fire Department who were exactly like them? Basically what I am saying here is that Karen and Davis are my favourite favourites. "Karen and Davis eventually fell in love and got married... But not to each other" is basically the perfect ending for them.
AND SPEAKING OF PERFECT ENDINGS. Wanda. Wanda's ending literally had me making squeaking noises. It is so Wanda. She gets a degree in theoretical physics! But she still works at the gas station! I love Wanda so much. I want to be her when I grow up. Although presumably at some point I will not be working retail anymore so maybe I do not want to be Wanda? But remember the one episode (again, I think this was way back in the first or second season, it may have been the one where Karen Totally Didn't Sleep With Hank) where she has a hidden talent for making rude anagrams? It was pretty amazing, is my point.
Remember the time Oscar discovered the internet? The time they reunited their band from the '80s? The time they got a doctor from an even smaller town and she thought everyone was having sex always? (Seriously, does anyone remember that one or did I make it up?) I could keep going on like this for, like, hours.
Corner Gas was the show that taught me that Canadians can be funny sometimes! (You would think that, being Canadian, I would have always known that. That is most definitely not the case.) It was the first non-TVO Kids show I watched regularly! I mean, I have definitely lapsed in my Corner Gas-Watching in the last couple years, but I at least try to listen to it on the TV in the other room when I can't actually watch it.
Basically what I am saying here is, Corner Gas was good, and now it is gone. Unlike pretty much every actually-current TV show I have followed, Corner Gas never killed off anyone, added pointless religion, or did anything horrifically sexist. It will be sorely missed! Maybe I will like, buy some of the DVDs, at some point. When I have money, I mean.
