keywords: rebel girl, toronto snob, trigger, vic/kat

WHAT DO I EVEN SAY ABOUT TRIGGER. I fucking love this movie and so should you? Vic is a broke Toronto songwriter and recovering junkie. Kat is wealthy, works for a TV network in LA, and is a recovering alcoholic. Ten years ago they were Trigger, toast of Toronto's punk scene, but they had a fight on tour and haven't spoken since.

One of the things I love about this movie is how they are an inverse reflection of the Hard Core Logo boys. Kat has status and money and moved to America to get it, but she's the one who organised a fake show because it was the only way she could think of to get Vic to talk to her again. Vic is broke and hard and angry and Canadian, but she's the one who shows people she loves them by leaving.

Keywords because the movie uses the Bikini Kill song perfectly and because the movie is a love letter to my city and I love my city.

keywords: andrea/taylor, defenders of anarchy, me and the corpse bride

ST. TRINIAN'S. Feelgood pop-feminist naughty-schoolgirl heist movie of my fucking heart forever. I wish I had been able to find better caps, this is blurrier than I'd like.

Taylor and Andrea are leaders of warring cliques; they come into the film hating one another and come out of it friends/girlfriends depending on how you read the film (I think you all know how I read the film). Andrea lets down her Scary Emo/Goth Chick guard and Taylor sees the real fear and anxiety and, despite them being ostensibly enemies, doesn't mock her, she helps her.

(Someone wrote a vampire AU that threw my head for a loop because I usually like to think that they end up in bizarre domesticity, and the idea that actually Scary Andrea is real and Scared Andrea was the act is. Really fascinating, if not my preferred way to look at these characters.)

Keywords from the theme/school song, and from canon right before they accidentally finish one another's sentences.

keywords: a/g/l, best knight worst person, oh lancelot honey, once and future king, used bookstore adventures

Terrible tragic OT3 of my heart forever.

I am surprised at how hard it was to find a painting with the three of them in it, this was the best I could do. (It's Lancelot and Guinevere's last meeting, at Arthur's grave, before she joins a convent.) I find the painting kind of hilarious actually? "My husband is dead, I'm going to be a nun." "Yeah but I don't see why that means we can't make out though?" Lancelot what are you doing.

I could sit here and talk about my King Arthur feelings for literally hours but I am not sure that is a productive use of my time so here are some previous Feelings.

I have been unnecessarily invested in this ship for more than half my life and I don't expect that to change any time soon.

Tags are mostly carryovers; #oh lancelot honey and #best knight worst person are my Lance tags on tumblr (depending on how sorry I feel for him at any given moment), and I like to keep at least one old-books related icon in rotation tagged #used bookstore adventures at all times.

Keywords: alien, facehugger i hardly know her, in space nobody can hear you scream

I love Alien. I genuinely think it's one of the most perfect movies I've seen. I'm not particularly fond of any of the sequels, many people I love enjoy Aliens but it's not my cup of tea. The first one though. Technoorganic psychosexual nightmare. Gothic horror in space. Sigourney Weaver being super attractive and also the most fucking badass. What's there not to love?

There are very few movies that can get away with having literally nothing happen for the first forty-five minutes and still manage to be terrifying.

Keywords are the movie tagline and my tag from tumblr.

even robins, kids, steph and jason toddler, tiny titans

Tiny Titans was (and it saddens me to use past tense!) my actual favourite comic. The writers were given blanket permission to use any character that had ever appeared in a Titans comic or cartoon-- including characters that were dead or in limbo in the "real" comics.

DC has been consistently trying to pretend Steph Brown wasn't Robin from the second she took the costume off. The "Jason was a Bad Robin" smear campaign has been going on longer than I've been alive. There's a huge tonne of classism involved in this, as well as misogyny wrt Steph. The two of them (and sometimes others from other continuities; comics are hard) are the Even Robins, Robins number Two and Four, who have a lot of similar points in their stories, including similar backgrounds, similar attitudes to crimefighting, and similar REALLY AWFUL DEATHS that they themselves get blamed for, because victim-blaming kids is A Thing in comics-fandom-at-large.

So yes. Here in this kids' book you have two of my favourite characters, who are both very often shit on both by DC and by many comics fans. You have them smiling and happy. You have them both clearly being Robin. Heck, I'm pretty sure this is the first time they were even on panel together (Steph with Jay's memorial in the background doesn't really count) despite being such similar characters who associate with many of the same people.

So yes! This is my happy-about-comics icon. I don't get to use it often.

Keywords are pretty self-explanatory. "Jason Toddler" is Tiny Titans Jay's actual name in canon.
