Made it back from the cottage alive.
- Wine. We brought back about as much wine as we could fit into my uncle's tiny car.
- Food. We went out for lunches, because we couldn't afford to go out for dinners up there; the lunches were all fantastic. Also the cottage was near an organic vegetable stand, so combined with what we brought from our own garden, everything we cooked was ridiculously eco-friendly and also delicious.
- Got a lot of reading done: First two Wolf House books, second Edge Chronicles book, first half of The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein. Not a patch on when I was a kid and I'd bring a book for every day of the trip, but three and a half in five days is still pretty good, given how full those days were.
- Swimming! In the lake! I love swimming, but I try not to go to pools because it strips the colour out of my hair. But lakes don't do that!
- Being out of the city means it wasn't unbearably humid all the time. Just after it rained, and it only rained the morning we were leaving, so that worked out just fine.
- I bought a hat! Brown wool, what I think of as a scoop but is apparently not called that elsewhere, since the internet doesn't recognise that? A cap, like a newsboy cap, where the brim has a snap on it to keep it flat. That kind of hat. Fifteen bucks on sale, down from fifty.
- Actually saw a combine harvester, so mom and I finally got to use our absolute favourite joke in the world, which we've been sitting on for like a year ("Combine harvester? I hardly know her!!")
Unrelated to vacation: Lufwood made me start rereading the Edge Chronicles and now I have a stupid amount of feelings. Pretty sure I read the first books before they were released in the States at all, and there was no English-speaking fandom. Now there is one, small of course. But (probably because all my fannishness was conducted in isolation, with IRL friends) my opinions and ships seem to be vastly different to everybody else's. Why do I never seem to want fic of things there actually is fic of?
