Help Needed.....

As you know I'm new to livejournal and so I'm asking for some help. I want to know how to get rid of the pictures for "reply" "read comments" etc. I don't want the pictures [the pencils, heart etc] I just want text. I want it to say "comment" "read comments" "22 Comments". Does that make sense? Can any help me figure out how to do this please? It's driving me crazy LOL!! I HATE the little pictures....any help would be greatly appreciated.
