Full Tilt Boogie

It's been a hell of a week.

The Garden Party. As I guessed it only made $175. I was hoping for a little more than that, but we didn't lose money (I was afraid of that) and so I'm content.

Tuesday was Med Dance. I still love it. I begrudge the time because I want to be at home, but I still love it when I make myself do it.

Wednesday we took Dude (cat for those of you who don't know) to the vet. He's around 12-13 years old and is in kidney failure on top of his thyroid problem. He now weighs about 5 lbs and is skin and bones. They gave him a hydration treatment and gave us the rig to do it to him a couple times a week and some new thyroid medicine that I stick in his ear rather than try to wrestle it down his throat. The vet said he has about 4-5 more months tops. The hydration treatments clearly make him feel a lot better so we aren't going to bump him off just yet. Also we are coming up on the dreaded July 4-5 everybody-I-care-about-dies time of year. Therefore Dude gets a reprieve probably until around the first of August. After that we begin to risk coming home to a dead cat and I don't want to do that. I want him to die comfortably in my arms. It's going to be really hard, but that's how life is.

Friday night I made my debut as a shock jock. Well, ok, a shock-jock side-kick. This guy put out a call for people to co-host his internet radio show and I answered jokingly, basically I said "darn, I don't have the qualifications, but I'm a very talented audience, are you going to have a podcast?" Then sent me a string of emails and eventually talked me into it. It was easier and more fun than I thought it would be. It's tough to be witty and on point for 4 hours straight with an audience but I got through it. He said he would like to have me back. I don't know if he was just being polite. If he doesn't ask me back I'm good. I had an interesting and unusual experience.

Saturday night the "Naturalist Group" had a party. We don't chase butterflies, it's as opposed to "supernaturalist," i.e. atheist. It's a lot of fun. Some of the people are young and edgy and some are old farts like me and Chris and most are smart and intellectual. There's a lot of food and beer (and Propel in my case).

Today I discovered my father was in town and yesterday was his birthday. I'd turned off the ringer on my phone Friday night and forgot to turn it on. Jasmine had been calling trying to warn me and finally got through about 9 a.m. this morning. Christ. So I scrambled the jets and took everyone out to lunch. Also it was the family party for Elizabeth's birthday which is actually Tuesday. Tuesday I'll take her to a drumming circle and then take her out shopping for clothes on this coming Saturday. (Then in 3 weeks I get to do it all over again with Samantha who's up next!)

I had a nice, if brief time with my dad. He took my weight loss in stride. I figured he'd either make fun of me or criticize me. He did neither. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm not 12 any more. Who knows. We had a pleasant time.

Chris has been grumbling that it's time for me to come to bed. Maybe so. It's been a long week!
