Nursing tips for my friends who are expecting:
* Purchase three nursing bras and keep them in the bathroom. Whenever you are able to sneak in a shower, take the one you're wearing in with you and wash it with soap. When you get out, you'll have a clean one to wear; and you can hang the other one up to dry. The third one? It's so you'll have a clean one when you forget to take one in the shower. Because you will. Still, if you can get into the habit, it's a pretty good system.
*Have nursing pads ready to go before you get into the shower because you'll likely be leaking when you get out.
* I'm guessing that burp cloths are handy, but I've found that choosing one receiving blanket each day to use for milk, drool, and spit up works pretty well. We have a regular blanket and a "milk blanket" each day, and we just throw the milk blanket into the laundry at the end of the day instead of going through 25 burp cloths a day. I have to admit, though, that Dot doesn't spit up a whole lot, and I might go through a couple of blankets if she urped up a large amount.
And from the file marked "Bizarre moments in postpartum life": Getting out of the shower and trying to decide which leak to stop first . . . milk? blood?
