Finally . . . An Update on "Baby Inga"

Jan 08, 2008 11:50

I have to make this  quick because I have approximately one zillion things going on right now, but here is a long-overdue update on the belly.  These were taken on Christmas Eve.  We're now about two weeks from our estimated due date.  (Seriously, I've been pregnant forever, right?)

And the hair:

For those who did not receive a Holiday letter, here's what we did in 2007:

Dear Loved Ones,

Ah, it’s that time of year again.  Doubtless you’re receiving lots of holiday cards and many of these annual update letters.  It’s too bad we don’t all do such a good job of keeping in touch year-round, isn’t it?  Thank goodness for these lovely few weeks each winter where we stop to think about one another and send out all of our best wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

It has been quite a big year for this batch of Brewers.  We’ve had adventures galore!  Our precious niece Ava Christine was born in March, and we got to attend her baptism the following month in Cleveland, Ohio.  It was wonderful to get to see Cynthia and Steve, of course, but our goddaughter was definitely the main attraction while we were there.  We did manage to hit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Botanical Gardens, and the Monet Exhibit at the art museum during our stay.

As a bonus, we got to take a few days to drive up to the Detroit area to spend time with Lorna’s little sister and step-mom.  We were even lucky enough to arrive for Sue’s birthday.  More touristy expeditions ensued, and we had a great time touring the Henry Ford Museum.  I think it’s safe to say that a good time was had by all.

Apparently that baby thing is contagious, because shortly after we got home, we managed to start one of our own.  It was a pretty special Mother’s Day, as that’s when we took the pregnancy test and found out we were expecting.  We learned that the baby is a girl, and since we won’t decide on her final name until we meet her at the end of January, we’ve just taken to calling her “Baby Inga.”  (It’s kind of a long story.)  Lorna’s mom is staying with us to help prepare for the baby and will be here for a while to help us adjust after the birth, too.

This autumn Rob spent a week in Victoria, B.C. for SARScene 2007, a search and rescue conference sponsored by the Canadian federal government and the British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program. Rob made lots of friends, attended many great lectures and observed an incredible demonstration put on by the Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Parks Canada, and volunteer SAR teams.   Rob spent one day at home before heading to Banff, Alberta for a Wilderness Risk Management conference, where he again attended many lectures, made many friends, and even managed to hang out with some friends he made the week before! At the end of two very busy weeks, he was glad to come home.

Lorna’s biggest (well, second biggest) adventure of the year was starting a freelance writing company with her friend and former coworker.  They’ve been building a portfolio that includes clients from all over the world, including Australia, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, and more.  They were also hired to write a professional blog, and after only three months it was named to the “Top Ten Blogs for Writers 2007/2008.”  It was quite an accomplishment.  The Berry-Brewer Freelance Agency is growing day by day!

As fun and full as 2007 was, we know that 2008 holds even more in store for us.  We’re impatiently awaiting the arrival of our newest family member, although, we’ve agreed that she can take her time so we’re able to get the nursery finished!  We wish you all the happiest of holidays and may you have a spectacular 2008-we definitely plan on it.

Love,
Rob, Lorna Doone, and "Baby Inga"
