The Weekend!

Friday was uneventful - David went to his award ceremony/breakfast, and when he got home around lunchtime we went to pick up the truck from the dealership. Yay it's fixed! Hopefully the new rear end will help increase the gas mileage. We've been getting about 16 mpg, which is less than the old truck, and totally NOT what we were expecting. We stayed up late playing on the computer.

Saturday looked to be a great day, so we headed out around 7am with the kayaks to the Salt Springs Park, accessed through Brasher park. The tide was low and falling, so we made it through the shortcut by the skin of our butts. We would have made better time if David hadn't stopped to fish every 250 yards. I saw a flock of wood storks, a bunch of great white herons, some egrets, osprey, and a pair of roseate spoonbills. They're so skittish though, it's hard to get close to take a photo. We headed upstream toward the springs, but the tide was so low we couldn't reach either one. As a matter of fact, the tide was so low we had to go nearly a mile out of our original path to get back to the launch. We'll definitely check the tides before we try that trip again!

After a shower, lunch, and a nap, we headed to Busch Gardens Tampa for their annual Halloween event, Howl-O-Scream. We bought tickets for an early-entry dinner, which was great, watched 2 shows (not my style - geared toward a younger, less "family" crowd with adult themes) and went through 5 of the 6 haunted houses. They were well themed and decorated, and I was scared a few times, but spent most of the night cringing when someone jumped out of a dark corner. I felt like I wasted my time going through the houses - I couldn't look around to see the details because I was always being startled. Is that what being scared is all about?

Sunday was a lazy day, David made banana pancakes (wishing for some pecans!) and I read the paper and clipped my coupons. I've got so much food stockpiled I feel wasteful sometimes going shopping. I moved some plants around, my hanging herb garden is really starting to look good. We're just getting into our really good growing season here: David started some tomatoes last month and they look fantastic, we've got some blooms already!

Coming up this week is a daytime field trip to Ruth Eckerd hall (Florida Orchestra I think), a full 5-day work week, and a Friday night football game field trip with David as my co-driver. Oh, and lots of oatmeal and Cheerios, I've got another blood test on Friday to check my cholesterol. We've been a lot better about cheese and eggs and red meat and butter, so it should be lower than last times. And we've been exercising more, like kayaking and walking around Busch Gardens twice in 2 hours.

What's your favorite form of exercise, and how often do you do it?
