On grooming

I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly high maintenance in the personal grooming stakes, but I still find female grooming extremely time consuming.  Valuable time which could be spent doing something really useful - like nothing!

At night, the eyebrows need to be kept in shape; the legs de-furring and the make-up removed and moisturiser applied.   (Hope in a jar - it will never make me look 19 again however hard I wish, but still I try).  In the morning, the body needs to be cleaned and body lotion applied. Along with deodrant.  The hair washed and conditioned, blow dried with products to prevent it sticking out all over the place and dyed every so often. I don’t know what my natural hair colour is any more, but suspect it’s no longer brown.  And the face prepared for make up.  At this age, I need make up.  It prevents me from scaring small children and husbands.

It all takes time, money and effort.  The skincare is quite pricey and I dread to think how much make up has cost me over the years.  I’d spend less but keep getting tempted by pretty packaging … Mmmmm, shiny.

Meanwhile, in the time it has taken to type this, Mr T will have bathed, washed his face and hair, dried himself off and put on a bit of moisturiser.  Mr T’s toiletry shopping list consists of shampoo, soap, deodorant, aftershave, shaving cream, razors, face wash, moisturiser, toothpaste and some mouthwash. (Mr T is an average bloke.   He has no truck with facials and the like).

And each day he wonders why it takes me so long to get ready in the mornings …
