Department meeting called this morning. It was obvious it was going to be bad when the HR lady walked in and the two managers looked as if they wanted to go and have a good cry. As we are a corporate service, we get to be restructured first. Three redundancies have been announced and the consultation period starts next week. One of them is in the team I work in, the rest are Admin functions. It Could Be Me. Bum. Poo. Farts. Am not sure what to hope for as if it isn’t me, then it’s going to be Someone Else.
Selection for redundancy will be based upon "objective criteria" such as length of service; attendance records; disciplinary records; skills, competencies and qualifications; work experience and performance records. (This must be true, I found it on the
CIPD website).
We are now going through due process, but part of me longs for the days when you just got taped on the shoulder, handed a box and told to piss off and clear your desk. As it is, it sounds like we’re going to go through a fairly long process of consultation and then find out at the end of it whose number is up. No idea if that will be the person they first thought of or someone else. December will be magic. Not.
