back from the South

Sometimes I really miss the Southland. The smells (of the paper factories), the sites, the people. The old porches, friendly faces and yummy sweet tea. Yesterday I was more than ready to come home, however, and after 7 quality hours with my book, I made it in with a front row view of the glimmering skyline. . .

I had a great time visiting with Hunter and Will (two friends from college) and their 2 massive 90 pound gregarious golden retrievers. Hunter's house is full of animals so it's this weird mix of debutante-glory and downhome animal madness. It's cool. I enjoy people who can exist in many worlds.

Sunday night I went to the "contemporary" worship service at St Philip's which is this gorgeous church in the heart of Charleston. Charleston has 7 (or more it seems!) Episcopal Churches. . .all within about 5 feet of each other - the sermon was good - and about Sabbath time which everyone needs to hear consistently in such a busy world! And the three musicians played songs like "heart of worship," "open the eyes of my heart," "we fall down," etc - I couldn't decide if they chose those songs because of Lent or if they choose slow songs like that all the time. The music came off sounding very 70s. . .and I realized at the end that youth group took place at the same time - so either 1) the youth should have been there or 2) I should have checked out youth group time!

I would so love to go back on April 1st and run the new Cooper River Bridge run - I ran the old one 5 years ago and it was glorious.

Oh! I heard a rumor about myself this weekend, too. . .that I'm going back to grad school in the fall. I wonder what I'm going back to study. . .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CAITY S AND GORDON!
