We went up to Calumet for a wedding; one of jebra's high school friends asked him to perform the marriage ceremony for himself and his love. It was a fun wedding and we saw many friends who live up there.

On our last day, we had dinner with a Michigan Tech student who we have known since he was a baby. He's the son of two Tech grads and is studying his mother's subject, much to her delight. He appears to be very much enjoying his freshman year and I can only hope he's remembering to study once in a while.

In mom news, I called her this afternoon to see how she's doing. She's still in the hospital but she sounded so much better than she has for the past month. My impression is that the surgery was a success and that she may be moving back to the rehabilitation hospital soon. I plan to call her tomorrow to see if she's learned anything since we talked.

ETA: See that oddly shaped building at the top of the photo? That's the Quincy Mine's Steam Hoist. We did not go on the tour this trip, but if you travel up there, I'd recommend touring the hoist and mine. The photo was taken from the parking deck in Houghton. That's how scenic it is in the UP, even parking lots have scenic views.
