My own thoughts...

Commodore Norrington was disliked by many in the first movie due to the fact he was 'against' Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Will Turner. Against meaning that he followed the law and swore to uphold it while the others repeatedly broke laws ( Read more... )

I only "discovered" LJ and the POTC fandom after DMC was released on DVD last year so in my boredom I've been reading the archives of some of the LJ POTC sites (especially those specific to the Navy Boys). So while I realize since these entries are over a year old and may not be read again I still would like to comment.

"If he does redeem himself, I am incredibly afraid that he will do so by dying, when he really deserves a girl of his own that loves him and not Elizabeth, who is rapidly descending into a whore, though that is a rant for later."

Big SIGH....Sadly your guess turned out to be spot on Mrs_N; three months later I still shake my head at the lazy writing and thrown together mess that was AWE.

A little over three months have past since the release of AWE and at times I still get a bit miffed over what was done to the POTC franchise.

I also find it unfortunate that a portion of Norrington fans only became fans once he became scruffington. I liked DMC (okay James snarking at Ninja Liz is a big reason why) but thought Norrington was much better as the clean cut and misunderstood Commodore which is how I still see him. AWE never happened...

Will never understand the need to keep the Norrington/Elizabeth thing going as IMHO that entire "relationship" ran it's course and was dealt with; over and done by the end of COTBP. Maybe Bruckheimer didn't want another young actress to come in and provide competition for KK? Who knows. Even if a second female character hadn't been writen as a love interest for James (how I wished we could have seen that played out; thank goodness for fan fiction) I believe that one was needed to balance out how horribly obnoxious and over the top Elizabeth had become. She was packing more testosterone than all the male characters put together.

Oh well....
