Having been all enthusiastic about blogging each day of GenCon, I then didn't get a chance to log on at all for the rest of the Con! Am now in Seattle though and life should be a little less hectic so will be able to catch up on my missing posts!
So Friday at GenCon was a lot lot busier than the Thursday. I know that's probably to be expected but it still came as a surprise as to just how many people were around. I was just about aclimatised to the time difference, although the previous night I had slept from about 8.30pm to 6.30am so my body must have needed to catch up! I managed to finish the Cheeze Weazel cards from the previous day and got to play in a couple more demos of games. Thoroughly enjoyed Say Anything by North Star Games - which I picked up for myself - and had a great game of Cash N Guns although I lost, but at least I felt like I had a chance of winning. I do enjoy playing board games but only when I'm not playing against people who immediately come up with a fail-safe strategy for winning that means other people don't even get a look in.
I was also getting a bit more confident in chatting to other gamers and as Exile Games were also taking part in the Cheeze Weazel I was helping out in that respect. We were asking the players to choose their favourite character from the new Hollow Earth book that had just been released and part of that involved explaining the basic premise of the game to them. I think I was managing to do quite an effective sales pitch in some cases and it was starting to sound interesting even to a non gamer like myself!
Friday evening saw the entire Exile Games crew and friends (about 19 of us in total I think) meeting up for Italian at Buca Di Beppo - a restaurant chain that serve food in the middle of the table for everyone to help themselves, much like chinese restaurants tend to do. The food was amazing and I was completely stuffed with pasta related dishes by the end! Managed to get a relatively early night which was good considering how busy the rest of the weekend was!
More to follow shortly :-)
