In life, there are many constants:
No matter what time the team leaves at night and comes in the next morning, Ianto will always be last out, first in, with the coffee machine ready to go.
Owen will purposely ignore Ianto except for the ten times a day his coffee cup needs refilling, even then not muttering a thanks.
Jack will harass Ianto at least twice a day, causing Ianto to mess up his paperwork and the team to roll their eyes at the mad twosome.
Toshiko will go off into a little techno-babble bubble in the middle of a presentation every other day, with Jack smiling and nodding along whilst Gwen and Owen nod off.
At least once a week Gwen will remind the team that they are all social rejects with no life outside of work, causing Jack to call a team "outing" which will end in tears - every time.
There is always Jack.
Jack is the eternal constant, always swooping in with his greatcoat to save the day in the nick of time and always there to care about his team when nobody else does.
Until the day he isn't.

No one harasses Ianto any more. He becomes more invisible as the days go on, leaving him to do his tasks in what little peace one can find within Torchwood.
Toshiko will go off into a little techno-babble bubble in the middle of a presentation every other day, but now no one else understands that a little techno-babble is good for the soul.
At least once a week Gwen will remind the team that they are all social rejects and now none of them correct her as she waltzes off home, back to her boyfriend, leaving the others to finish their work quietly.
But then Toshiko nearly dies.
A rogue weevil attacks when Gwen and Owen are butting horns over who should go where, and if not for Ianto's quick reflexes, Tosh will have died. After that, Owen steps down as leader and Gwen takes over. As her first act, she drags her new team (including Ianto) to the pub where they all drown their sorrows for one night only.
The next day things seem brighter.

Still nobody harasses Ianto, but he isn't invisible anymore because after escaping an alien vessel together, he and Gwen form an unlikely friendship and discuss the bedside manners both Jack and Rhys are lacking.
