It was a Friday night. His team was out on a ‘team building exercise’ down at the local pub and he was seated across from the Time Lord. His handsome face bore the pain of a thousand deaths; friends and family, enemies, his own. Jack's face mirrored the same remembered pain. The Doctor looked around the smoky room, his brown eyes taking in the merry atmosphere, the utter lack of responsibility and overall drunkenness of the punters.
“Surrounded by a million people, I still feel all alone,” The Doctor murmured, his eyes finally resting on Jack.
“You are not alone.”
