Stay On My Side Tonight

Digital EP Out September 6
Physical EP In Stores October 4

On September 6, Jimmy Eat World release Stay On My Side Tonight, a digital EP that will make available for the first time three previously unreleased originals, a Heatmiser cover, and a remix of "Drugs Or Me" from the gold-certified Futures. The physical CD version of Stay On My Side Tonight will be in stores on October 4.

Stay On My Side Tonight showcases sides of the Jimmy Eat World musical spectrum decidedly different from the upbeat anthemics of Futures' "Pain" and "Work": "Disintegration" opens proceedings on a somber note and concludes with the haunting refrain that gives the EP its title. "Over" and "Closer" each pick up the pace incrementally, leading into a beautiful and reverent cover of Heatmiser's "Half Right." Stay On My Side Tonight concludes with a remix of "Drugs Or Me" in which the Futures track is chopped, screwed, deconstructed and reassembled by Styrofoam.

"These are songs that we were working on around the time of recording Futures, but that just didn't seem to fit on the record," says Jimmy Eat World's Jim Adkins. "Now we've finally been able to give them a common home where they work really well as a whole, which is a relief. We didn't want to see them just trickle out randomly or even worse just sit in the vault until the next record or who knows how long. So that's the beauty of technology: We can get songs out to our fans whenever and however we want."

Elsewhere, Jimmy Eat World has been keeping busy, creating the awesome homespun videos "Tokyo Sunday" and "If You Don't, Don't" (as seen at jimmyeatworld.com), playing a handful of headline dates, and supporting Green Day through October 9. Following the close of the Green Day tour, the band will re-group to begin work on the follow-up to Futures.

The cover for the ep is pretty sweet: http://www.jimmyeatworld.com/_img/somst_sml.jpg
