Exercise 3

Alright, I'm officially playing catch-up.

She grabbed the remote and turned down the volume, turning the overwrought pants and grunts into soft moaning.

He looked over at her, her hip pressed against his, remote resting on her thigh. “Is something wrong?”

“Do you think they’re in love?” she almost whined. “I think they should probably be in love.”

He rolled on his side to face her and watched as her brow creased in thought. “Why do they have to be in love?” he carefully prodded. “They’re just actors, trying to make some money.” At the foot of the bed the actors changed position and the television resumed its soft moaning.

“I think if you have sex like that every day it should probably just happen. I don’t know.” She turned her body away from him. He draped his arm across her waist and pulled her back against him.

“Do you think if we had more sex we’d be more in love?” he teased.

She turned underneath his arm and nuzzled her head into his shoulder softly, wrinkling her nose. “No, because you’re a big oaf and I already love you too much.”

He kissed the top of her head and nuzzled his nose into her hair. “Maybe we should stop having sex so you won’t be so in love. Then we’ll have to have more sex to fall in love again.”

“No!” she softly squealed, flinging her arms around him. She pushed him down flat on the bed and rested her head on his chest. “I just wish they could be in love. That way they could be happy.”

“Sometimes people do what they have to. Sometimes they have to have sex with a stranger, and they have to be careful not to fall in love. It’s just the way things are.”

She sighed softly and wrapped her leg around his waist. He heard the remote slide down the covers and bump lightly on the floor. “I like loving you,” she whispered.

“Good.” He decided the remote could stay where it had fallen. The television set moaned softly in the background as they huddled together under the comforter and tried not to fall too much in love.
