I'm going to the University of Michigan. Sent in my admission acceptance yesterday. I'm glad that's over with...now to concentrate on scholarships. x_x

Heh. You realize there's like 50,000 people there, right? =P

Is she already there, or is she graduating this year too?

Well, I could try that...but U of M is notorious for not giving out many scholarships. Just to give you an idea, U of M is the top public school in the state, while Kalamazoo is the top private school in the state. Kalamazoo offered me a $13,000 scholarship off of their $32,000 tuition, whereas U of M offered me a $700 scholarship off of their $20,000. All those numbers are ballpark, but it shows you basically how stingy U of M is.

It seems like the only way to get a big scholarship there is affirmative action or playing sports. I've got an Indian friend (and I guarantee there's already a lot of Indians at UofM) who's got great grades and has been involved with student congress all throughout high school, and he only got offered $1000. But there's another guy I know, who's Mexican (significantly less of those at UofM) AND a football player, with average grades, and he got a full ride.

In conclusion, I think I'll be focusing on third-party scholarships. =P

congrats on the decision! yeah, u-m doesn't give out too much in actual scholarships, and unfortunately there are very little other types of scholarships left out there that i've found...:\

Did you check the drawer in the office? There's some easy ones, like from the PTO and stuff.

Congrats! I just sent in my application last week. I thought I wouldn't want to go to such a big school, but I spent a week there and it changed my mind, that's for certain.

And good luck with those scholarships. I'm not even going to try to get any through the school. =P Third-parties always seem offer less, but they can add up real quick.

What the hell do you think you're doing, applying to college during your junior year? For the love of God, give yourself a break!

...Then again, it does increase the chances of getting in...=\

Anyway. I haven't had any luck with 3rd-parties yet, but we'll see. I should do some essays. I'm a good writer, after all! =P

What am I doing? Trying too hard is what. And I've got my parents breathing down my neck, ready to flip if I don't get accepted. I've been accepted to one so far, though I've only sent out 2 applications. I'll bother with the ones that are easier to get into later.

3rd party scholarships are funny though. I know a kid who got one for merely being Polish. No writing or anything. But I'm sure your essays will get you lots, if you can load up the BS that they usually want to hear.

Well, trying too hard is relative. U of M is one school where you probably should apply this early. I know people with amazing grades who applied during the time most people apply to schools, and didn't get in - and people will less-than-stellar grades who applied really early and got in no problem. Where else have you applied already?

Heh, yeah. There's also one for cancer survivors.
