While I realize you are upset by american cultural appropriation of pictographic script, I also would like to point out that perhaps your response to school him should have been tempered out of respect for me, the friend you put in the cross fire when you caught the thread through *my* comment. Of course he's going to be defensive, he's been bullied in to a corner by A COMPLETE STRANGER. Couldn't you have just written it off as his stupidity and left it alone? There are a million stupid people out there that are not your friend's friends, could you not have gone after one of them? Now I'm in this completely ridiculously position of trying to sit between the two of you, because, yes, all of what you said is true, and I really want to be on your side, but the fact remains that what you did was incredibly rude and thoughtless to *me*. I'm glad you're smart, I'm glad you have opinions, it's why I like you, but could you not have shown a little less vigour in pursuing this *one* instance out of *millions* of ignorant people getting a foreign script tattoo they don't fully understand the meaning of? There are entire LJ forums to mock such tats, and I'm sure many more web sites within google reach. Why did you have to go after Bret? Because you just threw me under the bus and it would have been nice if that had crossed your mind.

1) I didn't catch it through your comment. Facebook shoves things onto my front page when I load the site. It didn't indicate your comment, only "hey there is this picture! Check it out!"

2) I can appreciate you being upset, and I appreciate your understanding of why it pissed me off. If it helps, I apologize for being insensitive to your feeling on the issue.

3) I typically don't visit hanzismatter or the like since they pretty much amount to getting punched in the face repeatedly. It's not really entertaining, just wildly frustrating. It's not like I take great delight in laughing, rolling my eyes and saying, "oh you white people!" If it were Bowhay with the ink, I'd probably want to punch him in the face too. Probably more so since he should know better.

4) If you don't agree with what I said, then say so to your friend. I don't expect you to take my side and I don't expect you to be anything more than dismissive to what I said. If it makes you uncomfortable, I apologize, but if someone puts a giant pile of shit in front of me, I will point at it and say "that is a pile of shit." In this case, someone tattooed it on their body and put it in a public forum. I pointed it out. If they're offended that's what happens. I've had the same done to me for my "silly tattoos," and it's just one of those things that happens. I guess I am more insensitive, in both ways.

5) If you would like to point a finger at me and call me an ass, then feel free. I honestly don't expect anyone to understand, save for the people that come from the same background I do. If you don't understand, then just point and call me an ass. It will make you feel better.
