So I was supposed to work monday-wednesday temping as a file clerk. Well wednesday afternoon they tell me they want me to stay the rest of the week. I had my interview today (details in a moment) so I only worked a half day today and then I work tomorrow. Ill end up with over 36 hours this week, that will be a nice paycheck.
The job is pretty boring though, they are reorganizing and had boxes and boxes of files to alphabatize and put in drawers, did it once for active and once for terminated files although they havn't finished going through the actives so they keep giving me more terminated ones from the active files that I have to refile, which also means backshifting frequently because I don't know how much space is going to be needed when they clear out the terminated from the active files. Also the location of the file drawers is RETARDED, its in a narrow hallway that doesn't have room for you to have a file drawer open and have people walk through, and its right at the entrance/exit to the office. This means I get to constantly move every couple mins for someone to walk through, or as was the case when I was filing papers into random folders, every other file I had to stop for someone.
I did get free pizza yesterday though, every two weeks they have payroll checks that go out and they get a group from the office to all gather in the conference room and get them all into big envelopes. They ordered pizza for everyone once we finished, so that was pretty nice. The people are friendly and all too so that definately helps when your doing boring work.
Anyway I had my photographers assistant interview today, it went ok... I first met with a department head of sorts, who talked a bit about the job and asked me a few questions and looked at my work. That went pretty well, although he did mention that they had so many applications for the job that he didn't even have time to look through them all, which is not a good. They have 8 staff photographers each with their own chunk of studio space in this large building, and they all have a full time assistant. Currently two are looking for assistants but one was out for jury duty, so I only got to meet one of the two. He was a pretty quiet guy, which made it a little awkward, as I didn't know how much to talk :P Anyway we did talk a little bit, and I showed him my work as well. As he was walking me out he did mention he could see me fitting in there, which is good, but we will see. They might end up calling me back to meet the other photographer when hes done with jury duty he said.
My friend at cars.com had an interview for a position transfer and it looks like hes getting the new position he wanted, meaning his current one is going to be vacant. He said he would directly refer me, and the position would kind of be assisting him, he would be shooting video and my guess is I would do the editing, not entirely sure. Starting pay is between 32-38k and benefits are nice including a dollar for dollar matching 401k plan. Location is nice and I like the office, and the dress code is casual; jeans and a polo so I dont have to wear dress slacks and shirt and tie everyday or even worse a suit. Not that I really mind, but it isn't nearly as comfortable and I also don't have a lot for dress clothing nor do I have a lot of money to go buy a bunch more.
Well thats my life for now, I really hope I get something permanent soon, especially this cars.com thing, although I would settle for the assisting thing, a lot less money, but at least for now it would be income and it would be pretty interesting. Although working 36 hours this week from 8-430 has definately been hard to get used to, waking up early isn't really my favorite thing to do, and doing it every day is rough. Especially since no matter what I do I can't seem to get to bed and get a decent night sleep.
