Wernigerode and FilkContinental

Day 54. After breakfast today I headed into town. It was pretty early so I walked around the center of town a little. The tourist information center was closed but I discovered a big wall map with a street index so I used that to plan my day. I went off looking for the Hertz location, but found nothing there. Near there I did find a big shopping center and got a terminal strip to help solve some of our power problems.

Then I went looking for another of the rental companies, and stumbled upon the Avis/Budget office. I found out that they have no cars at all right now, so they can't help me. While walking away from there I also found another, smaller company, who can't help me either as the car would have to be returned to them. The fourth place I went to closed 10 minutes before I got there. So I ended up with nothing but tired feet.

Back into town, I went ahead and did my shopping, finding a couple of models to take home with me. At this point it was pushing 3 and I was exhausted, having walked more today than any other single day. I went to wait at the bus stop, but ended up flagging a taxi who took me up the hill and back to the hostel.

Back in my room I showered and napped until dinner, which was barbecue cooked on an outdoor grille. It was pretty good overall, except that one of the meats was something I still can't identify. We talked with some of the Germans at length about such things as raising children and food allergies and so on. Then upstairs to see Steve and Katy in concert, and Tony and Vixy with Betsy and Sunnie in concert. Now the filk is going on and I will see some of it before crashing.

Tomorrow we find out about DB. I have seen news reports saying that the strike has been voted on but the date has not been set. I am holding out hope that Monday is not that day.
