Day 41. Today started early, getting out of bed at 7 and making coffee, the doing our final packing and loading the car. We were ready to go at 8, which was a little earlier than we really needed to be, so we got to the bus station in plenty of time.
Boarding the bus was easy, and we had nice, pleasant seats. This was ALSA Premium service, so we had a .. not sure what to call her. Flight attendant? Anyway, she actually spoke some English so she was able to give us translations of her announcements. She served breakfast early and a snack late in the trip, and we had back-of-the-seat LCD screens with movies, tv, games, etc. There were a few undubbed films so we had something we could watch in English.
About halfway through the trip, both of us were dozing. I was just about asleep when a pile of newspapers that had been put in the overhead rack decided to go walkies right onto my head. After that I was Very Awake. Other than that, though, the ride was pretty easy.
We got out of the station and stuffed ourselves into a taxi, then off to the hotel. The driver spoke no English at all, so we just sat and watched the road go by until we got there. Then checked in and into our rooms, and then to a real nap.
The wifi here in our room is terrible so I've been having to go into the hall or down to the lobby to use it. I did some of that while Kathy slept, then went off to find us some drinks. Along the way I found that the little park up the hill is holding a fair all this month with booths selling all sorts of stuff, so we are planning on checking that out tomorrow.
Then back for some tv and waiting until the restaurants opened. At 9 we were joined by a fan we met at LonCon, Sue. We had a delightful dinner just up the street, and she gave us a bunch of info about Madrid's history. It was a fun time.
Now I'm heading to bed. I'm hoping to go toy store hopping tomorrow. We'll see.
