I realize I often reserve this space for melodramatic, often negative entries. I don't do this because I'm particularly prone to either of those attributes, but because those moments are the ones that give me considerable pause for thought. Anyhow, consider this a break from that tradition.
I had a couple of humorous encounters that could only happen in a queer context. I'm going to dance lightly around the first. I entertained a friend from out of town for a bit, had a good time, drank far too much, and learned a new bartering system. Let the jokes fly.
I'm on my way to Decatur today (yes, it really is too far Tony) and as I'm crossing North Avenue a guy emerges from a side street and flags me down. I pry the earbuds away and see him standing by his Lexus SUV. He asks if I want a ride, and if I want to get out of the rain. The bewildering thing is that it really isn't raining with much intensity at all, and the guy never asked precisely WHERE I'm going. It doesn't take me long to realize that this fellow isn't exactly straight, and that he isn't exactly looking at me as though I were straight, either. I'm not insulted or freaked out: he wasn't bad looking in the least, and I was humored by the shameless sketch factor of the whole thing. I'll take it as a compliment.
Ahh. The gay community. Gotta love it.
