KRDogstar: it's been like 4 months!

Actually we’re approaching the two-month anniversary of my last entry, but it has been awhile. The last summer vacation of my life is officially over, and I just finished the first week of my second year of medical school.

For those who didn’t know, I spent my summer here in Columbus , working in the Emergency Department at our hospital. I was part of a research team testing out the effectiveness of a new machine that performs automated CPR. We worked in conjunction with the Columbus Fire Department, for they were the people actually using the machines. The job required lots of driving, as we drove to the fire houses to teach the medics about the machine, and to answer any questions they might have. Now I have a pretty good sense of the entire area of Columbus , and am able to name most nearby fire stations by number. It is to the point where I can predict the station responding to an emergency based solely on the area of the city. All in all, it was a fun project. The other students I worked with were nice, and our supervisors respected our opinions and ideas, so that we actually feel like a part of the project.

It was nice being able to go to work everyday, and come home to relax, without having any sort of test to worry about. I did get to see many movies this summer, and Pat came to visit me for a weekend from Indiana , and I went to Cedar Point, an amusement park in Northern Ohio, which is basically like a subdued Magic Mountain . All of the marquee rides are exactly the same, just with different names.

It sure will be tough for me to concentrate for this first exam because the Olympics are going on now. I am an Olympics nut. Summer, winter, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s such a great concept, to bring the world together for a worldwide sporting event. I love it.
